So then what you were holding against the magnet acts like a magnet. It's called induced magnetism. Today we observed our evaporation dishes and discovered that salt was one of the minerals in our mock rocks!

Today we took our mock rocks apart using nails to try to discover what minerals they are made up of. 

After we had them taken apart, we decided they were made up of red and green gravel and shells, but we still had some grey stuff left over. 

We decided to add it to water to see if it would separate it. We'll check back next week to see what happens.
